The Hanslick Rebellion: The Rebellion Is Here – CD Review

12_0620I was expecting one thing and got something completely different. Not always a bad thing – that held true in the instance of the Hanslick Rebellion. There are a lot of elements going on here. It’s like a Gordon Ramsay entrée at one of his fancy high brow restaurants. You have your elements of Punk and Alternative and you take that and mix it with Blues, Ska, Classic 70’s Rock and Roll, a little Stray Cats here and there along with a whacked out harpsichord and stir it all together into one mean loaf of Hanslick Rebellion. I might be nuts but I sweat I heard some Celtic Punk in there as well.

There is no mistaking this group – they stand out among the crowd in ways I didn’t think were possible. Much kudos to them for being able to gel together so many style and genre of music to form something truly unique that actually WORKS! This CD is awesome because it is ever changing – all different AND it is live. The crowd is hilarious so you even add some damn humor.

Lyrically the songs are unique and fascinating. The musicianship is way above par. The sound quality is better than high-priced crap I have heard from Diddy and since this CD is live – that says a lot about the quality of the group. Go for the CD when you can – you won’t regret it.

I really wish I knew what they were rebelling against because alternative and punk was all about sticking it to the man – there was no sticking. There was, however, a lot of bluesy piano, great melodic singing that reminded me a lot of Sebastian Bach, Axel Rose, throw in a little Black Crowes and Enuff Z’Nuff for good measure. That pretty much sums up the Hanslick Rebellion.
